But if you want to analyze your system and check for needed and suggested patches you should use swa:

Hope this helps!

Re: Is there any HP UNIX freeware patch monitor tools?

Hi Dharma,
you can run a patch assesment tool , cpm_collect.sh and it will tell what
patches not there in the system and which patches need to be update in the
system.

Download the script run , and upload and check the report,
http://ftp.itrc.hp.com/wpsl/bin/doc.pl/screen=wpslDownloadPatch/cpm_collect.sh?PatchName=/export/bin/cpm_collect.sh

It runs for HP-UX, I don't remember if it runs for Linux as well.

what linux distro are you running? each linux has build-in 'patching' reporting etc. handeled by the package manager.

Re: Is there any HP UNIX freeware patch monitor tools?

Thanks for the pointer Torsten. The preferred address for SWA is:

https://www.hp.com/go/swa

Direct links into Software Depot may age and break, but the above should provide pointers to the current bits regardless.

If you are looking for a framework to support the execution of the free tools you can look into HP SIM. While the current integration of SWA is only for an HP-UX CMS that may change in the future, and the standalone tools can always be custom integrated.

Re: Is there any HP UNIX freeware patch monitor tools?

as far as I can see swa does not need internet connection or it does ? probably it uses a patch catalog to make decisions.
I wonder how can it provide patch integrity without knowing if there is an update patch for your current patch in your system at any time ?

Re: Is there any HP UNIX freeware patch monitor tools?

Hello,

One of the grievances that some customers
passed to me is that SWA does not
include unbundled products.

Specifically, company is using ONC+
(NFS). They want to audit if their version
of NFS needs an upgrade. SWA does not
capture it.

I would hope that this will change in future releases.

Otherwise, SWA is the best way to go.
If your firewall rules do not allow
your HP-UX servers to go to internet,
you can simply download the catalog file and
then run SWA locally.

Cheers,

Re: Is there any HP UNIX freeware patch monitor tools?

Hakki:

SWA does require an internet connection, but was built to allow that need to be met by an admin with a USB key and comfortable shoes. Not only is a catalog file used for analysis, but SWA can download patches directly to build a depot.

Between direct access and sneakernet we provide user control over the download process. This means that a user can direct SWA to ssh past a number of gateways and run a command such as curl to perform the actual download.

VK2COT:

Yes, product analysis has been on our list for some time... just not at the top of the list (which was multi-system analysis).

Product analysis is climbing up that list. I would love to have people explain what "product analysis" means to them. Is there more than one type or is it simply "a new version is available"?

Re: Is there any HP UNIX freeware patch monitor tools?

If I have understood you right.

For Redhat Linux you can use "up2date" or "yum update" command to check ur system patches are upto date or not. You will need to have a login for redhat support network for this to work though.

Not sure if hpux has something like that.

Cheers,
uvk
