While trying to add security features to the net-snmp conf on hp-ux 11.31 I am running into issues where it does not appear to be allowing connections to snmp. Here is further information:
with:
rocommunity CO_string IP
The snmp works properly and I can snmpwalk to it from another server without issue.
However, when I try to update it with the strings that our linux servers use, it appears to not allow connections (even though it is listening on 161):
#disk monitoring
disk /
disk /home
disk /usr
disk /var
com2sec some_name 192.168.X.X CO_string
group some_grp v2c some_name
view all included .1
access some_grp "" v2c noauth exact all none none
Is there something that I am missing that is different on hp-ux net-snmp compared ot Linux?
thanks,
- Sean

SolutionThis issue was a combination of overzealous firewall settings and issues with the SNMP version installed on the host. I ended up reinstalling the net-snmp software with the latest software and adjusting firewall settings. I can now poll the server in question.
