Itanium2 kernel parameters

We are getting a chance to benchmark a RX46xx system against our rp5430. We basically run Oracle with an inhouse client app (runs on windoze). I know nothing about the differences between running HPUX on PA-RISC vs Itanium2. My basic question is what kernel parameters should/will be different? and what pitfalls should I be careful of? I will also take any other thoughts you all might have. There are some great threads out there but I can't find one on kernel differences. I am hoping that is because they are esssentially the same.

Re: Itanium2 kernel parameters

I havent had a chance to work on Itaniums yet :-) But I believe you have something called KCWEB that can be used for kernel configuration. I think it is web-based. Search for the documentation. I am sure that will give you some lead.

Re: Itanium2 kernel parameters

Hi,

parameters are similar but on Itanium2 there are more dynamic params. You can set it by kctune command.

Re: Itanium2 kernel parameters

The two platforms are moving to a common codebase or dual release.

Most of the kernel parameters work the same way on both system types. kmtune will display on both platforms.

Re: Itanium2 kernel parameters

Hi Amiel,

Refer to the foll. links for more information:

HP-UX 11i v2 release notes:

http://docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/fsearch/framedisplay?top=/hpux/onlinedocs/5990-6737/5990-6737_top.html&con=/hpux/onlinedocs/5990-6737/00/00/42-con.html&toc=/hpux/onlinedocs/5990-6737/00/00/42-toc.html&searchterms=kcweb&queryid=20040901-214959

There is a downloadable version of kcweb (11.22 release). Check the foll. link:

Hope this helps.

Let me know if you need more information.

Re: Itanium2 kernel parameters

You can know the difference on 11iv2 by using kctune. If you execute kmtune on 11.23 (IPF/PA-RISC) it will give the problem and ask to use kctune. ( It will execute too )

I have two difference as,

PA:
hdlpreg_hash_locks 128 Default
intr_strobe_ics_pct 100 Default Auto

You can knew it by making difference between ipf and pa with kctune execution.
Easy to suggest when don't know about the problem!

Re: Itanium2 kernel parameters

Comparision to HP-UX PA & IPF machine

In PA,

To install the driver/module --> kminstall command is used.
To configure the module into the kernel --> kmsystem command is used.
To tune the kernel parameters --> kmtune is used

In IPF,

To tune the kernel parameters --> use kctune { for command line mode } ,

kcweb { for web based mode .. it is easier to view & change the parameter values }

To install the driver/module --> kcmodule command is used
