Re: Kernel Panic with hpasm in RedHat AS 2.1
FYI, We recently went to ES 3.0 on a few servers running Oracle and I decided to give the 7.1.x agents another try. Within 3 days, two of the machines crashed.. I opened up a ticket with HP on this, turns out there is an known problem using these agents with Oracle..
Hope this helps..

Re: Kernel Panic with hpasm in RedHat AS 2.1
We have RedHAT AS 2.1 on many HP servers which has HPASM drivers and have not seen them having panic issues(they have some other issues though), HPASM comes their version of snmp and it replaces the snmp from RedHat you might want to try and uninstall and install the RedHat version if the snmp agent,we have some issues with this and we not installing them and going with the RedHat snmp.
Hope this help

SolutionI installed hpasm-7.0.0-21 last June on about 20 DL380G3s running RedHat AS 2.1. About 5 of my servers crashed/froze. I disabled hpasm on all of them and have not had a problem since. I just down loaded hpasm-7.1.1-87 and installed it on a test server (DL380G3). After reading your post, I think I will hold off installing them on my servers. Don, you say that HP is aware of a problem with these agents on servers running Oracle. Very interesing because all my servers are running Oracle9i Enterprise Edition. What release of hpasm did you have the problem with? I was hopeful that the new release of hpasm would have fixed all these problems. I was pleased to see that it's now GPL compliant (no taint on the kernel) and there are no kernel dependencies. I'm going to contact HP about this. Let me now what you guys find out and I'll do the same.
Thanks,
Brian
