Kernel rebuild procedure

In our project, we add 8GB swap space but system cannot use 8GB swap space. From kutune|grep -i maxvgs command output we found swchunk parameter value is 2048. Now i think we need to modify swchunk parameter value in the kernel. Please confirm which operational plan is appropiate which is given below:

***Operational Plan 1:

#cd /stand/build
#/usr/lbin/sysadm/system_prep -s system
#vi system

swchunk 8192---------------------------->Add this line at the bottom of the file

:wq!

#mk_kernel -s ./system
#mv /stand/system /stand/system.old
#cp /stand/build/system /stand/
#kmupdate /stand/build/vmunix_test
#shutdown -ry 0

***Operational Plan 2:

#cd /stand/build
#/usr/lbin/sysadm/system_prep -s system
#vi system

swchunk 8192---------------------------->Add this line at the bottom of the file

:wq!

#mk_kernel -s ./system
#mv /stand/system /stand/system.old
#cp /stand/build/system /stand/

#mv /stnad/vmunix /stand/vmunix.old-Pls check this line
#cp /stand/build/vmunix_test /stnad/vmunix -Pls check this line

#shutdown -ry 0

Re: Kernel rebuild procedure

Hi,

You can also use SAM.

# kmtune -s swchunk=8192
# mk_kernel
# kmupdate
# shutdown -r -h 0

Best regards,

Re: Kernel rebuild procedure

cd to build
extract system from the current kernel using system_prep
edit it using kmtune -s =value
build kernel using mk_kernel
schedule new kernel to boot next time
#kmupdate
reboot server

Thanks

Re: Kernel rebuild procedure

Hi,

The best way to change kernel parameter is using SAM.
