Hi,

Is LVM of HPUX and IBM AIX same ?
I mean is Logical Volume Manager of HPUX derived from AIX ?

Thanks,
Shiv

Re: LVM

Yes. HP has made a few mods and changes, but the two platforms are very similar.

Re: LVM

Shalom Shiv,

I would note that LVM on Linux was a feature port of LVM from HP-UX. LVM has a lot in common where the name is used.

Re: LVM

The AIX LVM comes from a different souce than HP's, yet both companies have ploughed large amounts of development cash into Redhat, and other Linux companies.

In my experience Linux LVM is probably 80% the same to HP's online JFS, and bears no visible similarities to the AIX version, however a lot of the AIX code used in GPFS and NUMA has found it's way into the GNU tree, and so the products are starting to look increasingly similar.

Re: LVM

As i understand it was the same company that created LVM, AIX and HP just purchased and tweaked it. The commands are almost identical in AIX and HP, Linux uses the HP naming approached for the commands and has also gone on to tweak/extend it.
