What does "down" in the last command represents?

An example of what you are seeing would be helpful.

When I execute the "last" command on my SuSE servers, I don't see anything that says "down".

Hi,

down or shutdown represents the last time that the server was shutdown, ie:

$ last -x|grep shutdown | head -1
Output:

shutdown system down 2.6.15.4 Sun Apr 30 13:31 - 15:08 (01:37)
