Limit CPU consumption per user on Linux Server.

Limit CPU consumption per user on Linux Server.

I have two applications running on the same Linux box under two different user account psofthr and psoftfs.

Is it possible in Linux to restrict and limit those two users CPU consumption upto 50%?

We don’t want either of user consuming 100% CPU on the server.

We have two dual core CPUs on the box with RHEL AS 4.0

Thanks,

Gulam.

This is the closest to what you want before dealing with ulimit:

Shalom Gulam,

However its a bad idea most of the time. The Kernel is much better at managing time slice than us humans.

So if you max out either app at 50% you could have your system doing nothing with half the CPU when the kernel scheduler can get more work done by other combinations.
