Linux RHEL5.4 running 10GB Fibre Ethernet Cards

We are running an HP ProLiant DL785 G5 System with 10GB (NX3031 Multifunction 1/10-Gigabit) Ethernet Cards with RHEL5.4 as the Operating System.

We are not getting the throughput we expect and we are wondering if anyone has a similar environment where the 10GB cards are working well?

Hello,
we run the same server on win2008 (but no 10Gb ethernet). No issues.
Could you describe your issues deeply?

Re: Linux RHEL5.4 running 10GB Fibre Ethernet Cards

We are actually getting mixed throughput, very poor at its best. We were only able to push about 2.5GB into the system and could not push more than 200MB out of the system running the 10GB cards. The actual HP Part identification is:

468332-B21 HP NC522SFP+ DUAL PORT 10GBE SVR ADPTR
468332-B21 0D1 FACTORY INTEGRATED

Shalom,

Everything I have read says that Red Hat has no drivers for this card.

Ping HP for drivers. They are at the moment your only hope.

Re: Linux RHEL5.4 running 10GB Fibre Ethernet Cards

According to HP Support - At RHEL5.4 the qlogic cards are no londer supported by HP and te qlogic drivers are built in the Red Hat kernel. These are now only supported by Red Hat.

Re: Linux RHEL5.4 running 10GB Fibre Ethernet Cards

I've seen in the past that you need to look to tuning to get proper throughput out of a 10G interface. Some drivers install their own tuning into /etc/sysctl.conf, but not all do.

You might look to search engines for starting tunables specific to your driver, but it'll take some testing to get things right (depending on your workload, memory constraints, overall network health, etc.)

Unfortunately, I don't have any samples saved off, but the default network stack on Redhat is *not* tuned for performance, so it can help to roll your own tuning.

We are going to try a different 10GB card, these seem to have a compatibility issue.
