Login It's very slow on HPUX 11.31

Hi.

I've been having this issue with HPUX 11.31 server. Whenever I login to this using SSH/SFTP it is extremely slow to connect to.

Where when i set the user name and password it takes more than 15 seconds to go to system, and i verify the content of these files /etc/resolv.conf , /etc/nsswitch.conf  and everything fine.

Can anyone help?

Thanks so much!

How large is your wtmps file?  Large files may slow down logons.

Hi,

the wtmps file size is

$ll -d /var/adm/wtmps
-rw-rw-r--   1 adm        adm        856638676 Aug 27 05:47 /var/adm/wtmps

Thanks

Hi,

I still facing the login issue on my server, when I try to use SSH it's take more than 15 sec but when I use the telnet it's login direct.

Please your support.

Thanks

Re: Login It's very slow on HP-UX 11.31

when I'm having this slow logon issue, I do "cat /dev/null > /var/adm/wtmpx" and the same for wtmp and wtmps.

Looks for files in /var/adm/syslog

wtmps   btmps  sudo.log   sulog

zero these files and try logging in.

You only want to reset the first file.  You don't want to do the others, since they maintain security info and shouldn't cause any performance problems.

If it is still slow after resolving the large logs issue, check UseDNS setting in /opt/ssh/etc/sshd_config. If set to yes, change it to no and restart sshd.  DNS problems often cause this problem with ssh and sftp.
