Re: Machine cannot comes up
I think it can be booted from CD.
Is there any instruction how to do that? What are the consequences?

I suppose you are talking about booting from Recovery media, Yes its possible to repair a non bootable system using recovery media. But if there are is a major unrecoverable file system corruption in root vg then the options left are to restore from ignite-UX backup or cold installation from ignite or CD.
Note: Recovery media is used to recover the bootlif/os partitions.
Instructions to boot from Recovery media:
1. Boot from the Install/Support Media. Boot from the path of the CD media and do NOT interact with ISL.
You will get a menu with the following options:
Install HP-UX
Run a recovery shell
Advanced Options
2. Select "Run a Recovery Shell" from the menu.
3. Choose the appropriate options to start reparing the boot disk.
HP-UX CORE MEDIA SYSTEM RECOVERY
MAIN MENU
s. Search for a file
b. Reboot
l. Load a file
r. Recover an unbootable HP-UX system ......
Select one of the above: r
Loading commands for recovery ....
DEVICE FILE VERIFICATION MENU
This menu is used to specify the path of the root file system.
When the information is correct, select 'a'.
INFORMATION to verify:
Device file used for '/'(ROOT) is c1t15d0
The hardware path to disk is 0/0/1/1.15.0
Select one of the following:
a. The above information is correct.
Selection: a
The disk is LVM Setting boot and root device file for c1t15d0...

Re: Machine cannot comes up
Dear Mr. Pradeep,
Thank you for the informative reply.
Considering the options you posted here I think it will be better to restore it from the ignite – UX backup.
Is there any place that I can find the entire procedure for it?
Best regards,
Yali
