Missing autochanger and tape devices in ioscan after HBA replacement

Hello all.

We have an rp3440 server running HP-UX 11.23 PA-RISC.

This server acts as the cell manager for our HP Data Protector application.

The "2Gb Dual Port PCI/PCI-X Fibre Channel Adapter" in this server failed recently and had to be replaced.

After the replacement, we gave our SAN team the new fibre card WWN's (dual ports) and they updated the Fabric-B and Fabric-C alias names on their end.

We rebooted the server several times but the auto changer, tape devices, and SAN drives associated with that replaced fibre card are not showing up in the ioscan output.

The fibre card itself shows up as CLAIMED in ioscan.

We confirmed the schgr kernel module is loaded.

We could really use some feedback from someone familiar with this configuration on how to resolve so the auto changer, tape devices and SAN drives will show up in ioscan.

Please advise.

Thanks everyone.

Re: Missing autochanger and tape devices in ioscan after HBA replacement

There could be several places that the WWN needs to be changed:

1) Tape library itself, if it's all fibre

2) The NSR, which is a fibre-to-scsi converter, that may be attached to your library.

3) Your fibre switch(es)

If HP-UX is not seeing any device files then your zoning is likely still incorrect.

Also check your /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log file for any errors that occur at the time you do an 'ioscan'.

Depending on the fibre card an 'fcmsutil replace_dsk' may need to be run to allow HP-UX to see the devices again.  I know you said tape drives, but the command is still the same.  I doubt that this is a problem, especially since the entire WWN changed, but there may still be errors in syslog.log that can help to pinpoint the problem.
