go to http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=101&prodClassId=10008&contentType=SupportManual&docIndexId=64255&prodTypeId=18964&prodSeriesId=3367813

The HPUX manuals.. About 1/2 way down the page is the npar and vpar admin guides.

1. you need software
2. you need the licenses
3. You need each partition to have a boot disk, lan cards and cpus

NPARS can only be done on cell based systems and are based on the cell architecture and the cards and devices in the cells.

Vpars can be done on any multiprocessor system provided you have nic cards and boot disks.

WHy not consider integrity VM you have lots of flexability in creating virtual machines and alot less hardware limitations.

HP
Customer Education has a online course that covers both VPARS and NPARS and you build them.

Re: N-par:V-par

how many V-pars we can create in one N-par.

Theoretical max. 8 per nPar.

how many N-pars we can create in rx-8640.

up to 4 (1 cell per npar) if I/O extender is installed.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: N-par:V-par

Hi,

Minimum configurations to configure Npar and Vpar are stated below:

Npar --> Group of one or more cells and physically attached I/O ( IO Chassis)

Vpar --> Quantities of CPU & Memory Specific LBA for boot device

According to current resource( cpu, memory io cards) available in specific box, need to decide how many vpar├в s can be created.

Hope your clear.

If you are using EMC storage, these tools are extremely useful for getting good information on npar/vpar information.

Also useful is SysInfo a utility provided by HP which does gather a ton of data including cpu speed information.

Re: N-par:V-par

Also, for NPars the commands parstatus and parmodify are your friends.
For VPars use vparstatus and vparmodify.
Read man pages on them and experiment in a sandbox environment to get comfortable with them.

Hope it helps.
