NAS storage....

Could some shed some info with NAS storage. I am interested in what kind of protocol can it support (in general). Thanks.

Shalom KC,

Almost universally NAS storage supports NFS version 3 server/client protocol. Some units support version 4 and I'd want that feature because file locking is easier.

Some units also support Samba and this is helpful from the standpoint of easy integration of Windows Clients.

Insist on a realistic test before purchasing, a bad NAS is very tough to deal with once purchased.

You can build your own NAS device and even make it redundant with a couple of old servers. I've done such a thing with Linux myself.
