Re: NIS Server Migration

Hi Omprakash,

You can configure workstation as NIS slave server and synchronise the NIS database. Later on you can remove the master and promote workstation as master server.
Best wishes,

Ganesh.

Re: NIS Server Migration

There is no "promoting" of NIS slaves to master.
You need to have all the actual files that are used to build the NIS maps on the new workstation. These files are /etc/passwd, /etc/group, /etc/hosts and others. Then you configure the workstation to be a master NIS server (and a client)

http://docs.hp.com/en/5992-0714/5992-0714.pdf
(You did not specify your HP-UX version).
Ensure that the NIS slaves bind to the new master, or reinitialize them, (the master pushes its maps, including the NIS-servers map, down to the slaves and normally you don't need to do anything with the slaves). Same with the clients, if they are on the same segment they should find the new master if you turn off the old master NIS service.
