Shalom,

You need to install the ypserv rpm from the install media.

Instructions:
http://www.yolinux.com/TUTORIALS/NIS.html

http://www.informit.com/library/content.aspx?b=red_hat_linux7&seqNum=139

Take your choice, there are hundreds of good documents.

Hi avizen9, at this time, NIS is deprecated, you should at least use NIS+, but what I really recommend you is to use LDAP directory server. Try with Fedora Directory Server.
Por que hacerlo dificil si es posible hacerlo facil? - Why do it the hard way, when you can do it the easy way?

Re: NIS Server configuration on RHE 4 update 5 32bit

Shalom,

Download the install media from http://www.redhat.com

I do not know which disk its on, you will need to mount it then cd into it and look for the ypserv rpm

You need a support agreement of some kind with Red Hat to access the site with the media.

If you go to http://www.centos.org you might find rpms that work without a support agreement with RH, but that is a violation of the license agreement.

Re: NIS Server configuration on RHE 4 update 5 32bit

For RHEL4, the ypserv RPMs are not in the WS collection: you need to get the AS collection - and pay the AS license. Or do what we do: we use official supported Red Hat on our application servers, where the application providers specify Red Hat; on our NIS servers, we use CentOS - based on the Chapeau Rouge source, but without the support fee - and we make sure to never, ever call Red Hat support about a CentOS issue.
