NIS users not able to autheticate in ftp

Hi All,

I have an NIS server set up on Linux with /bin/bash as the default shell for all the nis users. I have created an symbolic link to /usr/bin/ksh for the same. With this I am able to do telnet without any issues however when I try to do ftp with these NIS users I am not able to get through. In the syslogs I am getting the following msg.

qahp01 ftpd[2414]: FTP LOGIN REFUSED (bad shell) FROM 10.11.24.124 [10.11.24.124], test17

The above msg shows that there is some issue with the shell. Is there any specific file where ftp checks for the shell?

Thanks,
Kaps

This is the wrong forum for linux questions.
But for HP-UX, it is /etc/shells. See shells(4).

Shalom,

The shell in /etc/passwd on the NIS Master is not correct. Confirm it points to a valid ftp shell.

Or there is a user on the local system that is similarly borked up.
