Re: NTP in hp-ux

The purpose is to keep time synchronized to an acknowledged, respected source.

The easiest way to configure it is to use SAM or search in the forums for NTP related threads.

Re: NTP in hp-ux

and again , you are posting so many questions in the forum but not assigning points to anyone . please assign points to those who reply your questions in their free time

Re: NTP in hp-ux

Here is also a nice explanation which points out the importance of being on time on every node in the network.

Time advances. When nodes on a network are at different times, then you'll jump backwards and cause something undesireable.

For example, transactions between boxes are continuous in many applications like SAP.

Re: NTP in hp-ux

Hi Ajin,

An NTP synchronization subnet is a network of time-keeping systems, called time servers. These time servers are a subset of the systems on a network or an internetwork. Each time server synchronizes its time with the the Universal Coordinated Time (UTC), and measures the time difference between its local system clock and the neighboring system clocks. These servers are automatically assigned stratum values, which indicate how close the time server is to the time source.

Check below link,

http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-90774/ch04s02.html
http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-90110/ch08.html

Hope, it will resolve ur problem.

Re: NTP in hp-ux

Hi,

NTP used especially to synchronize your server to well known NTP server , that connected to precision atomic clock server. Config files under :

/etc/ntp.conf - Determines the synchronization sources & operation modes NTP.

To see if ntp deamon is running :
# ps -ef |grep xntpd
root 1068 1 0 Oct 20 ? 19:07 /usr/sbin/xntpd

to start ntp:
# /etc/init.d/xntpd start
