Need Instructions for running the Expert Recovery Shell

I am working with a HP UX 64 bit Itanium system version 11.31. While installing a MicroFocus Server Express product I ran out of space. I tried to create some space by removing some files. At some point I crashed the system and I had to use the boot disk to boot. I have never had to recover from this type of problem. Can someone tell me where to find documentation/instructions on the Expert Recovery Shell please?

Thanks.

What is the problem  you are trying to fix in the recovery shell?

What file(s) did you delete?  What error are you getting now when you try to boot the system.

It may be easier to recover the system from an Ignite/UX backup, if you have one.

Re: Need Instructions for running the Expert Recovery Shell

I deleted some files that appeared to be added by the install of the MFSX program in the /dev directory. Rebooted the system and could not log in. I don't have a backup as this is a development system.

At this point I have booted from my original boot disk and I have started the Expert Recovery Shell.  I am prompted for the "address associated with the /(ROOT) file system or enter 'list' to see a list of disks found on the system".

When I enter the 'list' command I get "invalid hardware path -- list".  A bdf from when I had access shows the root as /dev/vg00/lvol3 is the root but what is the address of the root for which the system is prompting me.

Have you tried booting in single user mode?

Re: Need Instructions for running the Expert Recovery Shell

Ken,

Since this is a development box, I went ahead and re-installed the OS. I can log in now. Thanks.
