Re: New Server Woes - HP DL385 G5
thanks guys for the suggestions, i did try the newest centos, but it did not seem to like the load and the smart start disk from hp would not even see the install, still wanted to deploy 2003 or 2008. i read something about a new kernal in centos causing that issue?
Maybe if I stay below the newest code it will work? guess i will try that and next ubuntu.
Like i said, a newbie, but willing to put in the hours trying, just want to make sure i start in the right direction.

Re: New Server Woes - HP DL385 G5
i installed ubuntu 8.04, it saw the nic cards, however, after the install completes, it will not ping my gateway address. I configured the IP address info thru the install. I know nothing is wrong with the network, it is something i am doing (or not doing) on this server.
Do i need to do something before the install of ubuntu with the hp smartstart? After? Really confused, i just want a simple server setup.
Help, i am drowning!!

Re: New Server Woes - HP DL385 G5
did you checked oficial hp site for linux support ???
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=3646114тМй=en&cc=us&taskId=135&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3646113
there is also debian drivers, so in your case you could install debian on the server, dont use smartstart cd fro the installation, only for raid configuration, and them boot normal cd from debian.
