No Tape Loaded for mt status

Hello,
I am a fairly new admin.


I have installed a Host Bus adapter and tape drive on 3 different machines
(2-RX6600 and 1-RX3600) All 3 machines respond the same to:

# mt -f /dev/rmt/0mn status
no tape loaded


Below are a few details on the RX3600:

HP-UX 11i V3
RX3600

Installed HP SC44Ge Host Bus Adapter
(CommonIO B.11.31.1103.01)

Installed HP LTO-5 3000 SAS Driver (external 1U rackmount)

Installed new HP LTO-5 Ultrium RW cartridge.
Green light flashed for about 30 seconds then solid green.

no tape loaded



Replaced that tape with another new one, but got the same result.

# mt -f /dev/rmt/0mn status
no tape loaded



Here is my /dev/rmt directory:

Are the tape units autoloaders or standalone tape drives? Try installing HP's Library and Tape Tools on one of the hosts.  This tool might give you more information about the drives and can test the ability to connect to the drive from the host.

It appears that the hardware is fine, so it must be something I'm doing wrong on the command line.

Then perhaps this is a SAS driver issue or patch issue.  You show your CommonIO package version, is it the latest?

 

Search software.hp.com for this and also for sasd and check results.

Also, perhaps try the persistent DSF:

 

 # ioscan -m dsf

 

Look for the equivalent device file that give that a shot.

A new version did came out at the end of July 

B.11.31.1103 -> B.11.31.1109

 

Just requested the new version from the software depot.

 

I'll post again when it's loaded
