Re: No space left

Your filesystem is full.

Can you remove some old files that are no longer needed? That would free up some space.

Do you have any space that is currently not allocated to any filesystem or any other use? Only you can know that, since only you have access to the system.

Is it possible to use them to extend the filesystem that is full? This depends on the configuration of your system.

Please show the outputs of these commands:

uname -a
cat /etc/redhat-release /etc/suse-release /etc/debian_version
(note: you may find only one of these three files, or none at all, depending on your Linux distribution)

cat /etc/fstab
cat /proc/partitions
fdisk -l
pvs
vgs
lvs

Is your system connected to a SAN? (If it is, can the SAN administrator present more LUNs to your system?)

Does the system have any free disk slots? (If you don't know, what is the make and model of your system?)

Re: No space left

Is it possible to increase the space dynamically

Re: No space left

If you have unallocated space in the Volume Group that contains the filesystem that has no space, or can add one more disk to that VG, then it is probably possible to extend the filesystem.

If you have OnlineJFS, you can extend the filesystem "dynamically" = while it's in use.
If you don't have OnlineJFS, then you must unmount the filesystem to extend it.

From the information you posted, I still cannot see which Logical Volume has no space left.

First, identify the correct VG and LV: run "bdf" and see which disk is at 100%. In the left-most column of the "bdf" output, there is a name that looks like "/dev/vgXX/lvolYY": this identifies the VG and LV.

Use "vgdisplay " to see if there is free space in the VG, or if a new disk can be added to the VG.
- If "Max PV" = "Cur PV", then new disks can be added to this VG any more.
- If "Free PE" is not 0, then you have at least some unallocated space you can use to extend your LV.

If "Free PE" is 0, you need to add a new disk. The steps to add it to the VG are:
-----------
ioscan -fnCdisk
insf -Cdisk
(the insf command will tell you the name of the new disk, like /dev/dsk/cXtYdZ)

pvcreate /dev/dsk/
WARNING: this command will erase all data currently on the disk, so don't choose a wrong disk here!

vgextend /dev/dsk/

If you now run "vgdisplay ", the "Free PE" value should now have increased.
-----------

To extend the LV with OnlineJFS, the steps are:

lvextend -L /dev//
fsadm -F vxfs -b m

Without OnlineJFS, the steps are slightly different and unmounting is required:

lvextend -L /dev//
umount /dev//
extendfs -F vxfs /dev//r
mount /dev//

Re: No space left

Hi Mithun,

1]First of you need to check whther your system is having online JFS s/w installed using,

#swlist |grep -i online

2]If you have online JFS already installed on the system then you can procced for the next step.

check whether you have enough space available to extend it online

for ex.

suppose Your file system is /test which is about to 100% full.
#bdf /test
/dev/vgtest/testlv ... ... 100% /test

check whther Volume group associated with this file system is having enough space to extend

#vgdisplay vgtest (check for Free PP and PP size area in this output)-ex PP size is 4 MB and no. of free PP's you have is 1000.

That means you can extend your file system by 1000*4= 4000MB

then follow the below steps

#lvextend -L 4000M /dev/vgtest/testlv
#fsadm -F vxfs -b 4000 /test

Hope this will help.
