Nslookup and Nsswitch.conf

Hello everyone,

At one machone, when root user does nslookup, it uses the /etc/hosts first. When oracle user runs an nslookup it check the dns first. Any thoughts why both are behaving differently.

I have this on my nsswitch.conf
# cat /etc/nsswitch.conf
hosts: files [NOTFOUND=continue UNAVAIL=continue] dns

Check the permissions of your /etc/nsswitch.conf file.

If the oracle user cannot read /etc/nsswitch.conf, the nslookup falls back to factory defaults (checking the DNS first).
