Open 5381 port on HP-UX 11.31

Hi.

I need to open the port 5381 for Clearview, and configure /etc/services and /etc/inetd.conf was not enought (with the restart of the inetd).

What to do?.

is this service to be managed by inetd ?

if so make the appropriate entry and reset inetd. when a connection is made the service responds.. (on demanand)

"configure" _how_? What, exactly, did you
change? (And why?) How, exactly, did you
decide that whatever you did was not enough?

1) Ports are not closed on a Unix operating system, most likely there is no service listening on the port.
2) netstat -an | grep 5381
If nothing is listening, refer to the Clearview documentation. It may not like being run with inetd. Is that how the documentation says it should be run?
3) /etc/services is a reservation file. Some services need it configured to run, some not.

Hi Mario,

The answer might depend where/how you want to open the ports. For example, are you running any firewalls in between Hp-UX and your client or some sort of ipfilter mechanisms? Did you try telnet localhost 5381 to bypass that and test if thats the case.

Or is the "ClearView" even installed/configured at this moment?

Most of the installations will configure the network services automatically as part of the install but some might need explicit steps to configure.
As noted above, there is no such "port block" thing by default, and most probably, nothing is listening on that port yet or not configured properly.
