Oracle RAC, SAN extension

Hi,

Can you please advise, how to extend Oracle RAC with new SAN disks. There is Veritas VM used. I also see new disks with ioscan, but need to help with procedure how to add them using VxVM.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Oracle RAC, SAN extension

You need to tell us more about the setup...

What OS version?
Are you using SGeRAC - if so which version?
Are you using a cluster filesystem or just raw VxVM volumes?
What version of CVM?
Do you want to add the disks to an existing DG or create a new one? If adding to an existing DG, are you extending existing volumes or creating new ones?

Re: Oracle RAC, SAN extension

Hi Duncan,

I just know, that it's Oracle RAC. The disk group already exists, just need to add new disks there. I have never worked with RAC and VxVM. cmviewcl command doesn't work here. If you can suggest some commands, which help you determine more info about system, please tell me. OS version is 11.23.

Re: Oracle RAC, SAN extension

well a cmviewcl output would be a good start...

Re: Oracle RAC, SAN extension

Yes, I thought so, but this command doesn't work here.

Re: Oracle RAC, SAN extension

what does "doesn't work" mean?

You mean you type it and it produces an error? or it can't even find the command?

If cmviewcl doesn't exist in /usr/sbin, that suggests this isn't a Serviceguard cluster at all - if this is then a Veritas cluster, I'm afraid I don't know how that works...

Re: Oracle RAC, SAN extension

Hi Duncan,

Yes, this command doesn't even exist on servers.

Re: Oracle RAC, SAN extension

Then I'm unlikely to know what to do...

Someone might pop up who knows the Veritas only tools, but you might want to post the query on the Symantec/Veritas forums here:

Re: Oracle RAC, SAN extension

hi ignite,

Can you tell me the output of the following commands

# ps -ef | grep -i had
# hastatus -sum

Just to confirm if it is having Veritas cluster.
