Can somebody give me the neccessary checklist to do a preventive maintenance of a tru64 unix 5.1b installed with advfs on an AlphaserverGS80 ?
The customer is talking also about the auditing of the system logs.
The customer is opening new branches and the load on the server will be trippled in one month. He wants checklist on performance tuning. Please help me on this and also do provide me with neccessary tru64 unix commands that can enhance my survey.
I would be gratefull !

SolutionWith regards to montioring performance look into utilities collect and collgui. Look at the man pages for further details.
Also, for performance tuning look into sys_check. It'll make recommendations as to which system parameters to adjust. It'll generate a HTML file. There will be a link 'View Warnings' which will have the recommendations. Make sure you have the latest version installed. You can get it at:

Re: PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE IN TRU64 UNIX
For system monitoring and fault reporting, use WEBES.
For performance tuning tips, is better if you read the System configuratioin and tuning manual. There are concepts about how to measure the CPU, memory and I/O performance. You can then use collect to analyze the statistics.
You can configure disk defragmentation to run regularly.

Re: PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE IN TRU64 UNIX
Check # sar reports .
# top reports.
# vmstat 5 5 ( Check swap utilisation, pi value should be 0 , nonzero value says for high swapping)
# iostat 5 5
check sorrounding temparature, cleanlyness, and system & user security.
May this help,
Cheers.
