There is no hard and rule. It depends on you. You can set non-expiry password or you can set expiry date.
see man passwd for more details.

password aging values are located in the /etc/passwd file and initially account is created default values are using from /etc/default/security file

per default there's no password expiration on HP-UX, you'll have password expiration when configuring /etc/default/security file (man security) or you cna configure it when converting the system to trusted mode.
