Re: Problem in direct login.

hello,

are you using telnet/ssh, "is direct root login" allowed in your Server,

>>>but i am able to switch to root user with same id & passwd<<<

looks to me "that direct root login" not allowed,

Check if your Server /etc/securetty root user allowed

Thanks,
Johnson

Re: Problem in direct login.

what does your /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log file shows..?

is your server trusted.?

can you Check your root account has been disabled..?

/usr/lbin/getprpw -l root
(look for lockout =101000)--> meaning ur root account locked

/usr/lbin/modprpw -k root --> to enable your account

also can please give more light to your question and explains how you have manged to login..?

>>but i am able to switch to root user with same id & passwd<<

>> chnaged root passwd with some strong passwd.<<

looks like you may have "enter" unacepatble character in the passwd field.?

Thanks,
Johnson

Re: Problem in direct login.

From the "passwd" man page:

WARNINGS
Avoid password characters which have special meaning to the tty driver, such as # (erase) and @ (kill). You may not be able to login with these characters.
