Problem with Ignite Restore

Hello,

I have restored an ignite image from a rx3600 to a rx2660 box, the restore was done using our LAN and it worked perfectly.

When I boot the box I get the following:

> System Memory = 2042 MB
loading section 0
.......................................................... (complete)
loading section 1
............... (complete)
loading symbol table
loading System Directory (boot.sys) to MFS
....
loading MFSFILES directory (/stand/bootfs) to MFS
.x..................
Launching /stand/vmunix
SIZE: Text:29499K + Data:7288K + BSS:5260K = Total:42048K
Console is on Serial COM1
Booting kernel...

It hangs in there, what could be wrong?
What could be done to check the sanity of this box, may I need to put in there a dummy kernel and boot off it? instructions to do this?

Please, help me on this! Thanks!

Re: Problem with Ignite Restore

Shalom,

Ignite restore.

There is an install log on the target system.

It should identify the exact cause.

firmware version is often an issue in these cases.

Re: Problem with Ignite Restore

/var/opt/ignite/clients/hostname/install.log

Found comments about critical errors in 11.23 when igniting rx boxes.

Need ignite versions and o/s versions.

Re: Problem with Ignite Restore

Hi Andrew,

This is a known issue in low end integrity systems. It happens the console is set on serial com1, the display goes off once the kernel starts loading. But the server may be booting in the back ground.
Go to EFI Shell and enter the command 'conconfig' and select the Serial console (VT100+) or VGA as the primary console as required and restart the server using 'reset'

Alternatively update the EFI firmware of the server to latest.

Shell> 'conconfig' not founde EFI Shell

conconfig is not even showing up on the help menu?

Re: Problem with Ignite Restore

Sentil

That's exactly what it sounds like. You need to be on the console.

Re: Problem with Ignite Restore

conconfig is not working, EFI shell does not recognize THAT command.

NOTE: Free space (2096271KB) in "/var/adm/crash" where /var/adm/crash is
located is less than system memory (3140144KB). This should be enough
space to capture at least a single dump (and likely more than that if
the dump is selective and/or compressed) in the event of a system
crash. Additional space may be required to uncompress the dump in
order to analyze it and to save multiple dumps. You can increase the
size of the "/var/adm/crash" volume on the "File System" tab when
using the advanced user interface.

Re: Problem with Ignite Restore

I have changed the input for the EFI and now no matter what key i press it does not pay attention to it

EFI Boot Manager ver 1.10 [14.62] [Build: Mon Nov 3 14:18:56 2008]

Please select a boot option

HP-UX Primary Boot: 0/0/1/0.0.0
DVD
EFI Shell [Built-in]
Boot option maintenance menu

Use ^ and v to change option(s). Use Enter to select an option
Default boot selection will be booted in 4 seconds

Is it possible to reset it? I cant type anything on it and drop to an EFI shell...

Re: Problem with Ignite Restore

I think you should call HP Support - bad as they are. I think the box is hung. Some rx2600 have cli's. If you have a cli then you can reset the box.

1. To access the BMC CLI, press Esc (
For US KB, press ESC, then Shift and 9 at
the same time.

CLI usage is available at :
http://docs.hp.com/en/AD117-9003A/ch05s06.html

You can see the CLI message something like below. The command ps would be appropriate command for you.

Use 'Esc (' and 'Esc Q' to toggle between system console and BMC console.
