Problems with patching Base-VXVM

Hi All

Im attempting to apply the Sep & Dec patch bundles on an 11.23 system which include PHCO_35779 which patches VXVM.

The filesets being updated are headed VRTSvmpro.VMPRO* however doing an swlist I have on my system "Base-VXVM.VRTSvmpro" therefore I am getting errors on the swinstall analysis saying these filesets do not exist ?

Searching the patch database I cant find any patches that reference the "Base-VXVM.VRTSvmpro" filesets - how do I proceed ??

Any ideas appreciated!

Cheers

Steph

Re: Problems with patching Base-VXVM

Shalom Stephanie,

Are you using vxvm?

If not, don't patch it, take it out of your system.

These patches will not apply in that instance and will be a footnote in the log.

Re: Problems with patching Base-VXVM

Hi Stephen

If only it were so simple :) We are using vxvm, we use it just for the root volume group - rather than buying Mirror/UX for one disk.

I have attached the swagent.log with the errors. I took off enforce dependencies but Im not sure I should actually install with out the co-req patches which are also failing.

Essentially I don think veritas has been patched since it was installed :( and I can not remember how this problem was resolved in the last patch bundle install.

Re: Problems with patching Base-VXVM

Okay Steph, I guess if I don't have a job you are going to make me use my brain.

I'd go with the newest bi-annual possible.

Beyond that, the Base-VXVM.VRTSvmpro fileset is probably to be found on the Core OS DVD.

So you may wish to go over that from the same Core OS as you plan to draw your patch set and see about installing a missing part of VXVM.

Also swverify \* lets take a look for corruption in the patch database.

swconfigure \* might deal with issues, depending on the severity of the issues.

Back to my RHEL upgrade now. If I'm still awake, I plan to check back.
