Query in usermod command

Hello,

we need to change password for more than 50 hosts. i have encrypted password.

i can propagate with usermod command. but it is giving error, user already in use.

critical application is running on these hosts.

I can use force option.

my question---

is it safe? will it affect application since application is using this user account?

Regards

Re: Query in usermod command

if all you are doing is modifying the password, it is safe... the user won't be kicked out

this check is there for when you are doing something that could really effect a user logged in (changing the UID or GID for example).

so as long as the application isn't logging in to the system using a cached copy of the old password somewhere you are fine...

Re: Query in usermod command

No problems under normal circumstances. However, as said above, it depends on the nature of your application. Check with the application admin as well.
