RAID ?

I am installing Rehat 6.2 on a system that has a Mylex RAID controller card.
Everything loads up ok, but it is slower then molasis in January.

Any ideas as to why this would be ?

Re: RAID ?

I'll be glad to ask the First Dumb Question (which incidentlly, I don't believe exists).

Are you a standalone server relying on /etc/hosts, or is this a Machine which is netwokring and is using DNS?

Re: RAID ?

This server uses the services of a DNS server 10.1.2.1

I can ping other addresses by name from my new server.

I could be wrong, but it really looked to me like it was IO choking on the RAID card.

BTW...We loved your website. The thing about life being taken to seriously had us all in stiches

Thanks for the feedback about the Web Site .... Glad you enjoyed it!

I'll look into other issues and see if something comes up regarding the Mylex Raid.

Re: RAID ?

Thanks, it pointed me in the right direction.
I am not sure why it fixed it, but recompiling the Kernal was the answer.
The kernal compiles when the OS loads. I am not sure why it was neccessary to do this.
The drivers come with Redhat 6.2...

Still very confused, but you know what they say.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it

Re: RAID ?

Bill,

One last thing, the RedHat Kernel as distributed is a Fully Modular Kernel. Which means that most things are included by the Kernel Module loaders (and the existance of /etc/modules.conf).

If the Installer missed the Mylex controller, then it would not be recognized by the kernel.
