RH AS 2.1 and storageworks tape drive C5726A

I need to know since everything seems okay and the system seems to see its tape drive, if I can install a generic driver for this device and have it work:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=18551&taskId=135&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=42869〈=en&cc=us&submit=Go%20%BB

That link shows drivers for every version of Linux ever except the one we are using on this box. The rpm based drivers require glibc 2.3 which as you know RH AS 2.1 does not have (2.2)

If there is a way to make this tape drive work, please provide a detailed procedure that works on 2.1 RH AS

Here is the ugly stuff. Note that the tape drive is somewhat visible.

Re: RH AS 2.1 and storageworks tape drive C5726A

Hi SEP,

I don't recall ever having to load drivers to get a tape drive working on Linux...

How is the drive physically connected ?

Cheers,

Rob

root@asguslxt01 bin# cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices: none

The drive is attached to a scsi port.

The natural assumption is that in this case a driver is needed.

Re: RH AS 2.1 and storageworks tape drive C5726A

I truly do not know what we were thinking on this one.

The purpose of this system is a DR test.

This system was supposed to replicate the functionality of an HP-UX Netveritas 5.1 Media server.

There is a severe shortage of Linux systems in this data center with the right scsi card to support the tape drive.

There are N class sandbox servers all over the place with the right scsi card.

So we made an executive decision. Use an HP-UX based system that has the right OS AND Hardware.

Closed.

Thought outside the box.
