RHEL 3 as NIS master and HP-UX11 as NIS client.
Anyone has experience to configure RHEL 3 as NIS master and HP-UX11 as NIS client?
Does it work?
regards.

Re: RHEL 3 as NIS master and HP-UX11 as NIS client.
This scenario will not work.
HP-UX does does not have /etc/shadow in 10.20 and will not authenticate to a RHEL 3 NIS Master. It will integrate, but not authenticate.
That is one of the reasons we used HP-UX as NIS master when I was with NDS in Jerusalem.

Re: RHEL 3 as NIS master and HP-UX11 as NIS client.
1) That's mean it is impossible at all for the above senario?
2) What u mean integrate & not autheticate?
3) But why it works if configuring HP-UX 10.20 as NIS master? No shadow passwd required for this scenario?
4) Is it works if the NIS client is HP-UX 11 or above?
regards.

Re: RHEL 3 as NIS master and HP-UX11 as NIS client.
i think it means that the HP-UX would bind to the Linux NIS master, but you cannot log in as it won't serve you the passwd map

I can confirm that, with ShadowPassword enabled NIS won't work. (if i recall correctly NIS+ would work with shadow)

Re: RHEL 3 as NIS master and HP-UX11 as NIS client.
we used several NIS domains before, it was a homogenous 11i environment. Regarding RHEL 3 I don't have any info.
