RHEL4update4 after power failure can't reboot
Hi,
I have a power problem and the server got reboot it self. But this morning i found server hang at 'No Operating System Found'. So i go to do a verification for raid 1 (where my RHEL4u4 installed). It fixed two errors. But now the boot will freeze where GRUB display at top of screen.
I attempts the linux rescue disk, but it say there is an error and can't be mounted. Neither of any live-cd I have can mount the partition. Can some one please help me out?
My Machine:
HP ML150G, 1G ram and single dual core xeon
Raid1 (RHEL4u4)
Raid0 (my data logical drive)

Re: RHEL4update4 after power failure can't reboot
Shalom,
If you can get into grub you can try a single user mode boot.
Unless your cd media is bad, you've tried everything. The power failure damaged your system. That needs to be dealt with prior to the OS boot issue.

Re: RHEL4update4 after power failure can't reboot
I don't know if my system file are still there or just the grub is corrupted. I mention the system reboot itself as i presume if the power failure occur, the machine will just shutdown.
Since i can't even get pass boot loader, i don't know what else i can try. I google and found a thread on ubuntu using with the following command to resolve but not sure if I should try it
1. Boot the liveCD
2. Run sfdisk -d /dev/hda | sfdisk --no-reread -H255 /dev/hda.
3. Run grub-install (hd0) to reinstall GRUB.
4. Reboot!
ps: When i do fdisk, it does show me a few hard disk (individually) not have valid partition table.

Re: RHEL4update4 after power failure can't reboot
ok, I try to reinstall grub on the 1st logical volume(even though i can't mount it).
Now i got a distorted screen (with horizontal thick line) on the grub menu and with error15 file not found. I try to change the grub root to (hd0,0) but after i reboot it still revert back to (hd1,0) .
Then i change the grub menu first line to root (hd0,0) and press 'b' and it boot as normal. :)
So i think the grub got corrupted after power disturb.
ps: the boot up process isn't display fully, even i change from wide screen to normal CRT monitor. Maybe sth is corrupted as well?
