RP4440 will not boot up - fibre cards keep recycling

Server stopped responding this morning. Took a look at the back and can see that the fibre cards for the eva keep power cycling every 10 seconds. Noticed that after maybe 15 minutes the power goes off even for the Lan card.
Used MP and all the fans and power look good.
Ran error checks and found error 7 and reported the hex numbers to HP. I power cycled the server and it did not even try to go to the machine code to check on cpu/memory for example. Waiting for call back from HP.
The power to root drives and the eva array all look good. Any ideas what may be going on,would be helpful - this a production server.

Thanks -

Hi James,

how do you see an I/O card power cycling?

Please try

# olrad -q

several times.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

A major computer failure. Failure to run the self tests means something fairly important is broken. This isn't something you can finx unless you have spare parts for everything in the rp4440. Even then, you'll need some training on how to disassemble and replace the various components.

Bill, What do you think I should have the engineer bring out to the site?

Thanks,

Can you see anything in VFP (virtual front panel) and system logs on MP?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Yes I can - I also talked to the engineer that will be onsite and he thinks it may be the MP card itself since power has to go thru it and they have seen this happen before, even though MP still works. By the way made a mistake this is an rx4440 not rp4440.

Re: RP4440 will not boot up - fibre cards keep recycling

rx4640 and rp4440 are very, very similar.

MP, I/O slots and much more are all components of the system board - analyzes will ensure if this is the culprit ...

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Ok - will just wait until the engineer gets here and let you all know what the issue is.

Thanks for the help for now -

There is no possible way to diagnose which component has failed, given the very limited information you have. The engineer should bring a complete kit of parts for the rp machine.
