Raid controller P410i rebuild issues

Were running linux 2.6.9-89.ELsmp and running RAID1 on a P410i with:

Hardware Revision: Rev C
Firmware Version: 2.50

More than once we've experienced an unrecoverable error on a drive with the result being the entire drive being rebuilt according to hpacucli. Shouldn't only the bad sector itself be recopied to the drive experiencing the error on an alternate sector?

Re: Raid controller P410i rebuild issues

Shalom,

It depends on the nature of the error.

If the multiple sectors go bad the entire mirror may need to be rebuilt.

An error can stop updates, which all have to be replicated once the error is fixed.

I'd check the logs and see what is going on. These kind of errors should be very rare unless a disk is going bad.

Re: Raid controller P410i rebuild issues

I was thinking this indicative of a bad controller firmware version. From what I've seen however 2.50 is OK?
