Rebuild the kernel from patch database.

Hello,
We installed a patch bundle and when the server came up in was caught in a reboot loop. I replaced the kernel with the old and tried to boot off that kernel. We had the same problem with the old kernel. At this point it was determined to be a SAN issue. My question is....Now that the new patches are in the patch database is there away to manually build the kernel with the new patches from the patch database. I don't want to try and install the patch bundle again. I want to test both kernels.

How will this help in building the kernel using patches that are in the patch database?
I'm looking for a manual way to but the kernel.

Shalom,

If your system is in a loop like this, do a manual boot.

Boot using the previous kernel.

Then see about running swremove on the recently installed patch set.

Or you could go ahead and restore to your pre-patch Ignite backup.

The ITRC guy had me remove the new kernel. I then booted off the old one. The system is up but no patches applied. I want to build a new kernel using the new patches that are in the patch database. This way I don't have to reinstall the patch bundle.

Are you talking about the ITRC database?

If you are talking about the IPD, all it contains is the name and metadata of the patch but not the patch contents.

Basically you are hosed and might as well reignite your server.

You could try using "swmodify -u" on each kernel patch that is no longer in your kernel. Then reinstall all of those patches.
