Red Hat AS 4 U3 on DL 385G2

Need help on installing Red Hat AS 4 U3 on DL385G2. The disks are not detected during installation. We already tried to download the driver and use linux dd. But somehow it still doesn't work. We cannot use different Update version of redhat due to application certification. Help?

Hi,

According to RedHat, you need to be using at least Update 4.

https://hardware.redhat.com/show.cgi?id=208631

Although HP's site says Update 3

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/dl585g2-drivers-cert.html

Maybe this Knowledge Base article will help:

Cheers,

Starting with a basic question, which controller are you using? This will help knowing if the correct driver files are used.

Second basic question, are you loading the drivers from a floppy drive?

Thanks!

Re: Red Hat AS 4 U3 on DL 385G2

P400..

i'm loading driver from floppy...

i got the driver:

Driver Diskette for HP ProLiant Smart Array Controller (x86/AMD32) for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (x86) » 2.6.18-5
25 Jul 07 » 2.6.16-6

after linux dd.. it prompts for driver then doesn't seem to get the right one... so it prompts again and again...

i used rawrite to write the driver to floppy...

Re: Red Hat AS 4 U3 on DL 385G2

There are two downloads available for the controller, one is an RPM, the other is a GZIP file.

Did you download this one?

If yes, this is the correct file. Do you have another Linux system where you can try create the driver diskette using this command:

dd if=cpq_cciss-.rhel4.i686.dd of=/dev/fd0 bs=1440k

It should make any difference to rawrite, but format the floppy again & try dd to create the diskette.

When the RHEL installation starts, issue:
linux updates dd

When it asks you to select the driver, select /dev/fd0. Sorry, if I'm going over what you've already tried, but this is the correct procedure, and should work.
