Description of the platform:
Server: HP DL740 octopro 4Gb memory
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 2)
Linux 2.6.9-22.ELsmp #1 SMP i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

My tests:
I've read the psp-users-guide.pdf
I've read the thread subject: RHEL V4 U1 and Insight Manager Agents? -> it doesn't work for me
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=954235

I've tried both gui installation and --nui installation of HP support packs (CSP)

The hppldu.log says no error (see attachement)

I've checked the packages needed for PSP:
glibc: glibc-2.3.4-2.13
gawk: gawk-3.1.3-10.1
sed: sed-4.1.2-4
pciutils: pciutils-2.1.99.test8-3.1

I've checked the libraries were really there:

I've got those errors in logs

Any idea ?
Thanks in advance.

Re: RedHat EL AS 4 Update 2 and Insight Manager Agents

Back in the USA, we had to diable insight manager on Windows servers because it was causing problems, generating a lot of network traffic and clogging our network.

First question I'd ask is do you need inight manager. Next, I'd consider a different and later version of both the OS (RH) and insight if you really need it.

Re: RedHat EL AS 4 Update 2 and Insight Manager Agents

I can't change the OS, it's the choice of my client (and anyway, Oracle is already installed on the server with databases, I can't reinstall it now)

For the versions of Insight, I've tried with 7.3 and 7.4, I don't think it would be better with older one, especially with this recent OS.

And yes I need Insight for (centralised) management.

So, I had to deal with this problem, no options.

Re: RedHat EL AS 4 Update 2 and Insight Manager Agents

Hi,

I had the same problem with an earlier version of RHEL ES V4 and V4U1.

In the end I gave up, as I didnt particularly like how the insight manager installed a number of components (ie its own SNMP software). I only wanted access to cpqacuxe, however HP has gone mad and integrated everything - which doesnt help if you want as close as possible vanilla Redhat environment!

Sorry that I cannot help, my posts on this didnt go very far either and I suspect it is better to log a call with HP on this one - after all its their mess!

Re: RedHat EL AS 4 Update 2 and Insight Manager Agents

Technically, update 2 isn't supported by hpasm yet. The update came out after the software did, so it wasn't tested by either party.

So, here's the workaround:
Install the kernel-devel pkg.

Alot of the psp is dependant on the source code for the kernel, by installing the kernel-devel pkg, it will create the lib.modules that the psp install is looking for (like an alias for the /usr/src and /usr/lib directories)

Re: RedHat EL AS 4 Update 2 and Insight Manager Agents

You may have already resolved this but I'm grappling with the same problem and came across this link from oracle that might resolve the problem,

http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=1092587

I'm going to test by moving /usr/lib/libcwait.so to /lib/libcwait.so and modify /etc/ld.so.preload to point to the relocated libcwait.so.

Fingers crossed.

Re: RedHat EL AS 4 Update 2 and Insight Manager Agents

GREAT !

Yes, I forgot to mention that there was an Oracle installation on this server.

Thanks a lot.
