RedHat Linux 4 & MSA500 G2

Hi,

We have RedHat Linux 2.6.9-89.0.20.ELsmp on HP DL360 G4 Server and connected to HP MSA500 G2 Array with Smart Array 642 HBA. We installed the HP Driver for Smart Array 642 HBA. The server is not detecting the Logical Drive which we configured in MSA500 G2.

The MSA500 G2 is connected to 4 Servers 3 Windows 2003 & 1 RedHat Linux 4 server. Do i need to install any special drivers or utility to make this work ?

Re: RedHat Linux 4 & MSA500 G2

Shalom Vipul,

The G2 series of servers is pretty old. However they are supported with this disk array.

I believe the problem here is the type of disk being presented from to the RH system. Raid 6 is not compatible to boot Red Hat servers.

Present it with a RAID 1 disk for boot.

Re: RedHat Linux 4 & MSA500 G2

After you mapped the logical unit to the server, did you rebooted the server? Did you at least run hp_rescan -a? Sometimes a reboot is needed to detect the logical unit.
Por que hacerlo dificil si es posible hacerlo facil? - Why do it the hard way, when you can do it the easy way?

Re: RedHat Linux 4 & MSA500 G2

Hi,

Thanks for the replay,

The server is HP DL360 G4 series. The OS is installed in the internal 146GB HDD RAID 1. We wanted to use MSA500 G2 Logical Drive as Database storage.

Yes, we rebooted the server after creating the Logical Drive in MSA500 G2 the volume is 100GB RAID 5.
