Reg : LUN Mapping issue - HP rx2620 server - HITACHI AMS 500

Dear All,

We have one HP rx2620 server & one HITACHI AMS 500 san box; both are connected through FC (8 port Brocade silkworm san switch).

HITACHI San box I have created total 10 luns and mapped one by one, 8 luns are successfully mapped in HP server.

Remaining two luns also I have mapped the same with out any error message but HP server I am not able to identify.

Please let me know how to map remaining two luns; I have attached HTACHI screen shots aslo.

Please let me know any additional information is req.

Re: Reg : LUN Mapping issue - HP rx2620 server - HITACHI AMS 500

So excuse my ignorance of such things, but in the first jpeg you attached there is a "HP-UX Mode" available which you appear to have disabled... a quick google on this seems to indicate it should be set to see LUNs higher than 8...

Re: Reg : LUN Mapping issue - HP rx2620 server - HITACHI AMS 500

Create a seprate hostgroup for every server and MAP the server's HBA WWID to it (zoned aptly of course). Do not USE the default hostgroups. BTW -- how many FC-HBAs does your rx2660 have?

Then follow the hostgroup settings for HP-UX as depicted in the manual.

I have a Hitachi 9585V (which is the old AMS500 but controllers still show DF600F too).

You may have issues actually making it obey ALUA directives in HP-UX 11.31 but YMMV. I have to do a tweak similar to what was done with a Clarion CX3 to make multipathing truly work. But the AMS 500 may have upgraded Firmware already and I was using then HP-UX 11.31 update 2 -- which "officially is not supported 11.31". So check with Hitachi Support too.

Re: Reg : LUN Mapping issue - HP rx2620 server - HITACHI AMS 500

The device file looks like the array is loop connected, not fabric. This is typical if you use a wrong host mode other than hpux.

Change the mode, but the device files will change too.

Hope this helps!

Re: Reg : LUN Mapping issue - HP rx2620 server - HITACHI AMS 500

Hi Alzhy,

Thanks for the reply.
In HP server we have only one HBA card and it's connected to Brocade silkworm switch.

HITACHI controller0 is connected to san switch.

Please let me know whether i have to install one more HBA card in my HP server..!

Thanks & Regards,
Mastan.

Re: Reg : LUN Mapping issue - HP rx2620 server - HITACHI AMS 500

Well - there is nothing preventing you from having just one FC-HBA. But common sense dictates that 2 is better so you can have redundancy and load balancing -- but it really is all up to you.

If you go with dual FC-HBAs, you'll have to contend with the DF600F's issues with HP-UX 11.31 multipathing -- I am not sure if this is still the case or if HP updated their support (but just as I said in the prevuious erply -- there is a workaround -- that is exactly what is needed too for Clarion CX3s)

Again, Please do NOT USE the default hostgroup.

And lastly -- You Know how to use Storage Navigator and the AMS 500's intricacies -- right?

Re: Reg : LUN Mapping issue - HP rx2620 server - HITACHI AMS 500

Dear Alzhy,

Thanks for your help on this; I will go through your inputs.

I am planing to install one more HBA card in my hp rx2620 server and I will map remaining two luns.

I will update the same.

Thanks & Regards,
Mastan.
