Regarding active disk replacement

Hello,

I have a disk which has gone bad but it is in CLAIMED state so I want to get it replaced with HP. Can anyone please let me know what exact steps, I need to follow before and after replacing disk. The disk is mirrored too.

Thanks & regards,

Re: Regarding active disk replacement

Hi Kavita,

The above mentioned doc "good disk go bad" is the best doc you can refer for disk replacement.

Still I am attaching a procedure for disk replacement in PA-RISC (you have not mentioned you server model)....but always keep the "good disk...." doc.

Hello Kavita,
its not really complecated, i suggest most imporatnat if you are not sure or you are new to perform this task, take full backup for all data before you are doing this.

you can try above two suggestions, if you have time also try below form which having sufficient information surely help you,

Re: Regarding active disk replacement

Hi,

If it is a system disk, then you need to boot the system, with out quoram with
boot -lq

you need to remove the disk from vg00 and add a new disk and mirror it.

Re: Regarding active disk replacement

Thank you all for your replies and docs. I do have that Good disk go bad pdf. I have read that but in case the disk which I want to replace is in available status and is a internal device, is in root VG but not a bootable disk, mirrored with few PEs on one disk in root VG and few PEs on another disk which is also in same VG. There are 4 internal disks in root VG and out of that 3 are configured as bootable which is maximum we can have on a server and the disk in question here is forth one which is not bootable. It is a bit quite complicated structure.
