Reoccurring problem with Unlocking the Root password!!! Help

This is a reoccuring problem on the RX6600 Itanium HP-UX 11.23 Server in trusted mode.
Device is a HDTFT7600 (Keyboard/Mouse) on a KVM switch that is connected to three servers.
All other servers do not have the problem. When the root account is disabled, I go to the device: Adonis Console and try to login as root. I get the message, "Account is disable but console login is allowed."
Please remember that I am not a HP-UX expert so if I do not explain fully, please be polite and ask me again.

This has nothing to do with the keyboard. Note that only keyboards and mice are supported as USB devices.

What has happened is the system root password has been locked by failed remote login attempts.

A console login will reset the root account and permit remote login.

Thought about this some more.

KVM switches are not supported as console login files(devices stdin).

Now if the KVM device works with other systems I suggest you upgrade the firmware on this system to match those systems. Also make sure the KVM device itself has the exact same firmware/cmos

Thank you! That makes sense. Can you provide me the best way to go about doing this?
I am not hp-UX savvy and I don't believe anyone in my organization is either.
Will I need to unlock the root password first?

That link is system firmware.

It includes installation instructions though it can get a little obtuse.

Also includes instructions to display firmware release which you want to do for comparision.

Go to the makers website for the KVM for procedures on updating and checking the firmware.

Also note, it could be something wrong with the KVM unit hardware.

Hi Theresa,
There is a smarter/better way out, have you tried using MP remote console ?? you might love it!!

using remote MP/ILO you can

---remotely powerup/powerdown server ( sitting virtually anywhere in the world, obviously you need access to the ip )
--- Access Remote Console
--- LOAD Virtual DVD onto the server

and much much more !!

Trust me you might want to get rid of the KVM switches and use the MP console

and you know what it does not take more than a couple of minutes to configure it!!

Make sure you are really using the console!

Depending on your configuration you have set up a X device, but console is probably still on the serial (MP) device.

No, it is set up right to the mp console through the HP KVM switch.
