Re: Replace old disk with new disk online
This is a LUN from a hardware RAID. If you present another LUN with the same LUN# you need to work with scsimgr and replace wwid option (or just reboot). A new LUN with a new LUN# will get a new device file anyway.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Replace old disk with new disk online
These are NOT plain disks presented to the server.
You have an array (made by EMC?), this presents LUNs to the server.
Ask your SAN or storage team for details!
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Replace old disk with new disk online
You have 2 options:
1) take a data backup, remove the old disks, bring the new disks in place and restore the data
2) mirror the data from the old to the new drives; then remove the mirror from the old drives, remove the old drives
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Do you have magic hardware mirroring on your storage device? Probably not likely if old is EMC and new is IBM.
Otherwise you would need to have/purchase software mirroring, Mirrordisk/UX:
