Re: Retention of log file

Hi,

/var/adm/wtmp
/var/adm/wtmps
/var/adm/btmp
/var/adm/btmps

These files, which hold user and accounting information for such commands as last, who, write, and login

/var/adm/sulog
sulog keeps the record who used su (set user or superuser)

/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
Out of these above logs files only two are important (sulog and syslog.log) rest you can nullify any time..

Re: Retention of log file

hi anu

u can nullify the others as said by suraj

u have to use fwtmp to make wtmps and btmps for human readble format.

Re: Retention of log file

Hello,

There is no such thing as
> log file retention period..

The system would append new info to those files until the maximum size of the files occurred. At that point an exception would be raised and the file would not be updated anymore.

You could install some third party software like logrotate that would make a new file after some customized time
