Root Partition Size ReQ to Increase & Decrease

Hello everybody,

Please give me the steps to increase & decrease (both)
the root partition size on online with LVM concept without any data lose.

I want to reduce the root partition size also.

I need the procedure for that too.

On-line filesystem reduction is not possible with current Linux filesystems.

Some filesystem types can only be reduced in off-line mode (= when unmounted), others cannot be reduced at all without data loss.

To reduce a _root_ filesystem, you must reboot the system using some external media (e.g. Linux Live CD, network boot, rescue mode of the installation media).
