Re: Running Linux on PA-RISC Servers

Take a look at http://www.thepuffingroup.com/parisc (I wonder why HP is using this website name). The claim is A and L class soon.

Re: Running Linux on PA-RISC Servers

Tim,

I Cannot say that I wan't aware of the Puffin Group, because I already knew about them. Btw, they are not HP, but an independant orgainization attempting to port Linux to the HP systems.

I still have a D200 which needs a Linux installation.

Thanks.

Re: Running Linux on PA-RISC Servers

My guess is that your D class machine is probably low on the priority list. For starters, the older PA7xxx series processors are eol. It's also the only class using the EISA bus which means a significant amount of additional driver development. I would think that the group would tackle the HP-PB bus earlier than EISA where it is more universal in HP servers. Actually, I'm surprised that HP has not replaced the D class with a free standing chasis that handles similar hard drive capabilities with a PCI bus instead.

Re: Running Linux on PA-RISC Servers

I just receive the following update from Matthew Wilcox , PuffinGroup Technical Support:

Hi, Albert.

I'm just about to leave on holiday for a month, so you're lucky you
caught me :-) Linux does indeed boot on the D200, and the Alpha release
CD which is on the ftp site will run. I'm not sure which devices will
be supported by that kernel, but it should be able to bring you to a
shell prompt. The port is still a couple of months away from being
stable, so it's not really suitable for installing at a customer site yet.
