SAN migration activity on SAN boot server

Hi gurus,
Storage admin plan to have SAN migration and unfortunately some of our servers have a SAN boot. What precaution should we take before do the SAN migration activity?

Server model: 9000/800/S16K-A
OS : HP-UX 11.11

Okey.. tq. Because this is considered as major activity (and also first activity for me on san boot), may I know what are the steps should we follow after Storage admin finish their activity (in term to boot up the server)?

TQ

Re: SAN migration activity on SAN boot server

Well there's the easy way and the hard way...

The hard way involves figuring out before hand what the new HW paths for the SAN boot device will be - you need to have an excellent understanding of HW addressing, your new SAN configuration and what LUNs the system will boot off after migration.

The easy way is to make sure you have another method of booting the partition before the migration (either from a DVD, tape or from an Ignite server). You then boot off the DVD/tape/ignite after SAN migration and then go to a command line and use ioscan to identify the new path.

Either way you then have to boot to the new HW path from BCH into lvm maintenance mode and then vgexport/vgimport vg00 and then reset all entries for boot using lvlnboot and setboot.
