Sendmail configuration question?

Can I configure sendmail.cf on a unix box to allow sending email to only specific users?

Sendmail 8.9.3.1
HP-UX 11.00

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Sendmail configuration question?

you don't have to run sendmail daemon to send e-mail from that server.

Don't think you can do that way to send out e-mails only to particular users. You may have to write put all users information in /etc/aliases file and run newaliases command to update it.

Re: Sendmail configuration question?

Shalom,

That sendmail version should not be used to accept mail. vi /etc/rc.config.d/sendmail

Make sure its set to zero so it does not start.

Put a DShostnameofmailservertorelay

in sendmail.cf to relay mail via another host. That host must be configured to allow relay and it will not permit relay by default.

Re: Sendmail configuration question?

The access database allows flexible control over sending and receiving mail. If you want to use it, you should consider moving to a more current version of sendmail. 8.13.3 is the current version for hp-ux.
